A Vandalia Church Plant...
On New Year’s Day 1965, five men gathered around the kitchen table of Bill & Barbara Fugerer to discuss the need for a new church plant in Miami County. All five families were members of the Vandalia Church of Christ. Four of them lived in Vandalia, but Clifford & Jenetta May lived in Piqua.
After much prayer, the decision was made to look for a meeting place in Troy, and an agreement was reached with the Staunton Grange Hall. The first official meeting of the “Troy Church of Christ” took place on Sunday, March 7, 1965 with 50 people in attendance.
Charter members included the previously mentioned Fugerer and May families along with Horace & Elizabeth Dietz, James & Dorothy Holpp, and Jack & Virginia Powers. Eleanor Kessler and her three children made the drive from Sidney for that first worship assembly, and Eleanor remains a faithful member of Mid-County to this day.

North Dixie Church of Christ
On March 6, 1966, Foy Anderson preached his first sermon as the first full-time minister of the Troy Church of Christ. As the congregation continued to grow, the search began for a more permanent home. In December 1966 a building was purchased at 1624 North Dixie Drive. After the renovation was complete (it had formerly been a nursery and garden center) and the move was made, the name of the congregation was changed to “North Dixie Church of Christ.”
The late 60’s and early 70’s saw several evangelistic efforts such as gospel meetings with Jim McGuiggan, the World Evangelism Forum, and the Scatter Program. Several members attended Sunset School of Preaching (now Sunset International Bible Institute) and participated in mission trips. A preschool program called “Thursday School” was started in 1972 and continues to serve the community today.

Becoming Mid-County
The Lord continued to bless the church with growth throughout the 70’s. So much so that multiple worship times were being conducted each Sunday. Adding to that, in 1977, the Piqua Church of Christ decided to sell their building and join forces with “North Dixie.”
Property was then acquired at 1580 North Dorset Road. Construction began on a brand new building, and it was ready for occupancy in 1979. The name was once again changed, this time to “Mid-County Church of Christ.”
This name was chosen because of its geographic location within Miami County, and to reflect the fact that members travel from all over the county (and beyond!) to be part of the family that worships here. God has truly blessed us with a wonderful legacy, and we seek to honor Him as we continue that legacy on into the future.
